Kicking off British Science Week with a buzz!
Join us on Saturday 10th March for a beach clean and survey.
**The Beach Clean has moved from Blackrock Beach, Brighton to a little further down the coast at Rottingdean Beach**
We're hosting a drone survey and beach clean in partnership with British Science Association and Libby Darling of Co-Founder of The GRAB Trust and local beach cleaning extraordinaire!
Bring the kids, relatives, anyone - it should be a great day out making our oceans a little cleaner for tomorrow! And doing some Science too!
Get your science on
British Science Week starts on 9th if March and is a week-long extravaganza celebrating science for people of all ages and backgrounds! So what better way of spending a Saturday lunchtime then cleaning our ocean and becoming a bonified citizen scientist!
You can host your own British Science Event, check out how here.
Location: Rottingdean Beach, Brighton
Meet at Molly's At The Beach (nearest postcode BN2 7SP)
Help Clean The Ocean!
Join us on the day from 10.30am where Libby Darling, our local beach cleaning export, will be doing an education section on plastics found on beaches. The day will involve walking down the beach for about an hour and a half picking up litter.
Each litter item you pick up will remove tens of thousands of pieces of microplastic from the ocean!
We'll then gathered afterward to have a look at what we've found before back to Molly's At The Beach for a good cuppa in degradable cups!
We're excited to say we've been given permission to conduct our drone survey on the beach for plastic and litter. This will happen before the beach clean and last about 20 mins, the images will be uploaded for you to tag after!
But don't wait until then, start tagging now here! Login after the beach clean and you'll see Brighton survey pics uploaded!
Deets of the clean!
Timing: 10.30am - before 11am
What to expect: First beach clean? No problem, we'll brief you on anything you need to know - you don't need to be a scientist for this part!
We'll supply you with gloves and a bag, but bring some clothes suited to the weather and proper shoes, thick-soled recommended.
Car: The Parking available is indicated on the map below, we recommend Rottingdean West Car park with Rottingdean Marine Cliff Car park as back-up. Expect to stay 3hrs or more, so this should equate to £3.00 charge. Postcodes for Sat Nav are available if you follow the links.
Train: Engineering works are occurring, so there might be fewer trains on the Brighton run from London - so check before your travel here.
Rottingdean is about a 20min bus ride on the 27 or Coaster 12A to the White Horse Bus stop in Rottingdean.
Places to Stay: A quick search for “accommodation” on Google Maps is a good place to start for options... Brightonians are a friendly bunch!
See you the beach!!
